Prof. Jillian Smith-Carpenter
Professor Smith-Carpenter received her BS in chemistry and environmental studies at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania in 2007. She then obtained her PhD from Washington University in St. Louis under the mentorship of Professor John-Stephen Taylor, focusing on the structure-activity relationships of G-quadruplex interloop photocrosslinking. In 2013 she joined the laboratory of Professor David G. Lynn as a postdoctoral research fellow at Emory University, where her research focus expanded to include self-assembling peptides. She joined Fairfield University as an Assistant Professor in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Outside of teaching and research, she enjoys hiking, biking, and walking her two dogs with her wife and son.
